Shift
Routes and Group Rides
Browse curated and personal routes, then schedule a group ride on one, invite friends, and keep everyone together with stick-together mode.
Shift gives you somewhere to ride and a way to ride it with others. The routes catalog is your map of where to go, and scheduled group rides are how you turn a route and a time into a shared session.
The routes catalog
Shift includes a catalog of routes you can ride in the virtual world. It covers two kinds:
- Curated public routes — closed-loop routes built into Shift and available to everyone.
- Personal routes — routes tied to your own account.
Each route shows the details that matter before you commit, including its distance, total climb and the shape of its geometry so you know whether you're in for a flat loop or a climbing test. Browse the catalog to find a route that suits the session you have in mind.
Scheduling a group ride
A group ride pairs a route with a time and a guest list. To set one up:
- Choose a route from the catalog.
- Pick a time for the ride to start.
- Invite friends to join you.
Once the ride exists, it's flexible:
- Invited riders can join or leave the ride freely.
- As the creator, you can cancel the ride if plans change.
This makes it easy to organise a regular meetup or a one-off session without anyone needing to be in the same room — or the same country.
Stick-together mode
Group rides support a stick-together mode that keeps the group paced as one. Instead of stronger riders disappearing up the road and splitting the group, stick-together holds everyone together so you ride and finish as a unit. It's ideal for social rides, mixed-ability groups, or when the point is the company rather than the competition.
Riding with friends
Group rides only work if you have people to ride with, so the first step is building your network. Once you've added friends you can invite them straight into a ride.
- Add and manage friends in friends and history.

Pick a route, set a time, and turn a solo session into a ride with friends.
